Note from Jamie and Dane:
Well, after I posted yesterday Daner took a turn for the worse. He was really nauseated so the nurses gave him some anti nausea meds and he slept the rest of the day and through the night. He woke up at 6 this morning feeling really sick. He threw up a few times and then his Dad helped him take a shower, where he continued to throw up. The nurse was paged and anti nausea meds were delivered. After some time, he was so relaxed he fell asleep until he was taken down for a procedure where they put more chemo in the spine. He did great and slept through it (with meds) and thru recovery. He was so out that they kept him on the operating bed and wheeled him to his bed where his dad moved him to his room bed. He was so out of it that he wondered why his back hurt so bad tonight. I told him and he said "I just thought Dad was holding me." So cute. We are glad he isn't remembering everything. He layed pretty still most of the day not interested in food at all (still) . We were able to talk him into a Popsicle. He had some visitors today who brought food and things to give him comfort. His room is looking pretty cherry. This evening he finally became a little more vocal and commented on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory finding things funny which was nice to see. He actually thought some pepperoni smelled good and nibbled on a couple of pieces and ate a grape. Yes, one grape. Halee and I tried to keep him company all evening trying to find things he might enjoy. He enjoyed a visit from some more of Mom and Dad's friends and snuggled Halee and Mom throughout the evening. He has been nauseated off and on all evening and anxious for a change. We are doing our best to give foot rubs, back rubs, and anything else that might give comfort. He was entertained by his 5th grade school classes letters and pictures and we read them throughout the day. He asked to have them read to him a second time. He has been in okay spirits tonight until his feet started to itch really bad. We are trying to calm them by soaking his feet in a tub of warm water. We are hopeful he will sleep well and wake up without a tummy ache.
All of us in Virginia are counting our days til each person comes out. We just have 2 days now...Hang in there Sweet Dane and know the chemo will soon be behind you and you will be able to smile again...
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how many people and children are praying for you all around the United States. You are one special young man...
I don't know your family but I do know what you are about to face. October 2009 brought our son, Daniel, a diagnosis of biphenotypic leukemia (both AML and ALL). Daniel was 15, about 10 days away from his 16th birthday. He received the AML protocol and we spent most of the next 7 1/2 months @ Rocky Mtn. Hospital for Children in Denver.
ReplyDeleteMiracles happen to those who believe! Our family is also LDS and we have seen the power of blessings, fasting and prayers. Daniel was in remission after his 1st round and remains so TODAY! It is almost a year since he left the hospital for the last time, he was released Mother's Day 2010.
I'm just a mom whose son has been through what your Daner is about to. Hard...YES but we felt very protected and blessed. We had complete faith in the doctors and nurses who became like family to us.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, as parents or if Daner would like to meet Daniel, I know Daniel would love to.
You can do this...I KNOW you can!
