A great day and.... FOOD!

Here is Daner doing his propafal sedation

Dane had a FANTASTIC morning!  He woke up totally chatty!  When I got here Dane was chatting with Nana and a friend about Crave Burgers in Castle Rock because Nana was reading to him out of his 100 Cupboards book and they mentioned a cheese burger!  haha  So, Dane was telling Nana and Stacy all about his burger he had at Crave over Spring break that was a burger with bacon, egg, and cheese between 2 sugared donuts.  It was pretty good!  Tasted like a breakfast burger.  It was pretty funny to hear him talking as much as he was and smiling!  His voice sounds a little different to me.  I wonder if it will stay like that now that his tonsils aren't as swollen- his chemo meds take the swelling out of his tonsils.  He received the cutest towel with his name on it and a hood and he was telling his company thanks for the towel- the towels here are really small (giggle giggle!)  We had some more friends visit and it was fun for Daner to hear Dad telling mission stories of Italy.  Daner loved it!  After they left the nurse gave him a platelet transfusion and then we went down for Daners lp (lumbar puncture) where they put more chemo in his spine.  The drug they sedated him with, propafal, is so amazing.  The anaesthesiologist let Daner push it in himself.  It was too cute!  He pushed and a second later he was out!  He woke from the procedure really groggy so he was wheeled back to his room.  After an hour or so, after all his talk of cheeseburgers and hot wings this morning, he actually wanted to eat.  yay!  He wanted chicken noodle soup and kept telling me he hoped it was good and he wanted REAL sprite- not the fake stuff, so I ordered "real sprite".  They brought him  two bowls and real sprite.  He ate both and wanted more so I ordered more!  When they delivered it they said he could have 4 more if he wanted (I think they were excited he was eating too!)  Dane settled for one more and is mostly comfortable now.  Receiving a blood transfusion at the moment (4:30 pm),  which his sweet nurse covered with a pillow case so he wouldn't have to see it and is just relaxing right now.  We are excited to see his grandparents who are flying in from Virginia in the next half hour.  Hopeful for another peaceful night.

Later that night...
Yay!  Dad brought Gigi and Grandad to the hospital directly from the airport.  Dane had big smiles for them and they did too.  They brought Virginia souvineers and a fun surprise bag with goodies from one of Mom's best friends in Virginia.  Grandad gave Daner a cool necklace the scouts earned at the Jamboree last year with the prophet George Albert Smith on it.  It was a tough necklace to earn their at scout camp and Grandad felt Daner had earned one too.  Daner was so proud of it.  Daner felt okay for most of the day, his hardest chemo meds are done for this round which is good.  Daner watched a movie with his Dad and he wanted to sleep in bed with him after.  His Dad so enjoyed holding his skinny little son's body all night (however, the nurses were so nervous when they came in the room in the night when they couldn't find him!).

  3. I've been too scared to try the donut cheeseburger at Crave... if you recommend it, I may just have to give it a shot!

  5. Yay! So glad he is eating! Tell Dane we were at Crave a few weeks ago, but no one was brave enough to try the donut burger, although Cassidy thought about it! They looked crazy! Continuing to pray for all of you....

  6. I'm so glad he wants to eat! Tell Daner we're praying for him all day everyday. Since the cheeseburger in the story helped him have an appetite, maybe you should read cookbooks with lots of pictures to him. Just kidding!

    Love to you all!

  8. Glad to hear he had a better day, and who doesn't love chicken noodle soup! Anyways thought we would let you know that Stew went to Medical school with one of the Doctors who was helping with Dane's admittance to the hospital. Her name is Dr. Autumn Orser. She is a friend of ours. She e-mailed me when she saw his picture on our blog!! Said he is a great little boy, and a trooper and she enjoyed meeting him and his wonderful family. (she is also LDS) Miss you all!

  9. I love the posts of good days! So happy to hear about his smiles...and that he's eating!! Please tell Daner that our family is praying for him and that my kids (6 tomorrow and 4) constantly ask about him! During one of our prayers today, I forgot to mention Daner & my 4 year old, Grace insisted I say another prayer, for him. We feel a great love for you all, here in VA. So many people are fasting and praying. My biggest prayer is that Daner feels his Heavenly Father close, and is able to have peace. The same goes for you all.

  10. Hey Dane! I'm sure glad you had a good day, mixed with all the bad one's. It makes you appreciate the small things, right? It reminds me of the story in the Book of Mormon where Lehi is telling his sons about opposition in all things and that through opposition we are able to learn and feel the good and bad. If we didn't have bad things we would be hard pressed to recognize the good things. I love you so much and Cole is so excited to come to Colorado. I hope your feeling well enough to enjoy that birthday tomorrow!!!
