Dane's on 9 News!

http://www.9news.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=968819524001

Kyle Dyer came just before we checked out last time to interview Dane for Bags of Fun. They interviewed him for about 20 minutes, but ended with about 15 seconds of fame. Dane has loved his bag of fun!  It was filled with so many cool toys like a DSi, a DSi game, puzzles, flubber, activity books, color specs, hours of delight!  I told Dane it was like having Christmas in April!  It was as exciting for me, the Mom, as it was for him.  A sweet couple delivered the bag to Dane after being at Children's for a day or so and we were so surprised.  The interview made Dane nervous because it was the talk of the nurses, but after it was done he said, " that was actually fun!"   It was fun to meet Tammy Kraus the founder of the organization as well as Kyle Dyer.  Kyle is from back east and she totally had that southern charm.  She is a doll!

Feeling a little better

After a long night, Daner luckily woke up feeling much better than he had in days!  He started his third round of chemotherapy on Monday, June 6.  The chemo drugs he is on this time are ones he has had before, Cytarabine and Etoposide, but double doses of both.  These heavy doses have made him more sick than he has ever been before.  Feeling so sick and throwing up more than ever has made him feel panicky, but after days of giving him every nausea medicine available he finally had the right balance of medicine to feel okay this morning.  He was up until 3 am with tingling and stabbing in his legs.  This was caused not from neuropothy but from too much of the pheneragan, an anti nausea medicine.  He was really miserable and was wanting to be removed from his painful life, but after relaxing him and his nurse getting the okay to give him a dose of Midazolam, a drug that calms the brain and relaxes the nerves, the stabbing in his legs stopped and he fell into a restful sleep.  He wanted to play Xbox as soon as he realized he felt somewhat okay this morning and after having such a bad day and night I gave in to him.  I did convince him to play some phase 10 with me today while we finished Eagle Eye.  I also read to him from his 100 cupboards book, we are almost finished!  He had a more peaceful day today.  He had some visits from Daner's Nana, one of Mom's friends, and Halee's friend Jenna who visits Dane when she is here at Children's for care. This evening was not as relaxing for him.  Around 8:30 pm he spiked a fever and was really sick.  His nurse gave him his scheduled anti nausea medicine, Pheneragan, which relaxed him and put him to sleep.  Every day I am amazed at this special little guy.  He is always so brave and resilient.  It is hard to see him have to go through so much at such a young age, he will be a strong man one day because of it.  I just love him so much.

Dane's Summer Vacation part one~

At the movies with his brother and sisters.  Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D--FUN!

This was so funny, when Dane showed up to school on the last day to say good bye all the 5th graders came running to have him sign: yearbooks, hats, shirts, hands, etc.  Halee and I sat back and laughed and laughed.  One little girl said she wasn't going to wash her hand.  He was the Justin Bieber of Gold Rush, too too cute!

Of course we had to have our annual Last Day of School 2011 cookie cake.  Way to go kids!
At Ty's baseball game, our good friends the Hanchettes were wearing their Team Daner t's for Team Daner Friday.  Thank you to all our friends and family who wear these t's with pride for our son, we appreciate you!
The kids in Denver going to the Chalk Art Show.  This was really cool, however not the cleanest place we took Daner to during his time home so we didn't stay long~
We took Dane to the mountains to fish and have a picinic.  It was really fun and the kids had a good time climbing rocks, feeding ducks, picinicing, and fishing.  It was Free fishing day in Colorado so it was quite crowded.  Dad was a little concerned that our kids were being too loud for the fisherman and embarrased whenever they threw rocks in the water, so we didn't stay too long here either.

He went from 28 to 315 in one day!!!

Time to go home
Leaving the hospital
On Thursday, May 26th, Dane's doctor came in to see Daner (Mom was dropping Mikayla off to school and Talia to play at a friends,) and the doctor told him that his ANC had gone from a 28 to a 315 overnight!  The nurses and doctors were amazed by this jump and couldn't believe it! Dr Nancy told Dane that this was great and he could go home.........today!  Daner called and told me, so I grabbed his containers and I was so excited to get to the hospital and pack him up!  When I got to the hospital Dane's nurse said that all the nurses were congregated around his sheet (above) in shock to see the numbers jump as they did.  She had been working on this floor for two years and had never seen anything like it!  It was such a faith builder to us for the power of prayer from all who are doing so in Dane's behalf!  Daner and I giggled as we quickly packed his room in excitement to surprise his Dad and brother and sisters in his arrival home!  I was shocked we were able to fit all the containers (the picture above was only half of it), food, balloons, and suitcases with ourselves inside his Dad's compact car!  We only lost one balloon, Dane's favorite singing balloon, in packing it all in, but we got home as quickly as we could and jumped in our other car to pick up his Dad and brother from the airport.  Luckily as we had been packing Dane's dad kept calling us, disappointed, that his flight kept getting delayed.  We were quietly smirking in delight because we needed a lot more time to pull this off!  Daner hid in the back of the car and when they went to throw in their luggage in , out he popped.  He scared them half to death.  It was awesome!  Next we picked up his sister, Mikayla, from a friends and had her do the same thing.  She screamed in fear and then delight!  It was so fun.  Last but not least, his oldest sister, Halee and Nana and Papa came by our home at 11 pm to drop Halee off  and he scared all three of them as well.  We laughed at all the white lies he had to tell them throughout the day so they wouldn't know he was home when he talked to them on the phone.  It was great and his brother Ty insisted on celebrating once again with the kids favorite: a cookie cake.  It was so so good to be home together again!

Welcome home Dane!!!

The day after Dane came home was field day at Gold Rush Elementary.  He was able to say hello to his classmates and cheer on his brother and sister.  He really got excited to see his friends in their Team Daner t-shirts!
